Semafor Live Journalism

Code of Conduct

Live Journalism is at the heart of our mission to deliver intelligent, independent and transparent journalism to our audiences. Like our reporting, we prioritize thoughtful, in-depth examinations of complex issues that can’t be boiled down into soundbites. We eschew partisan noise and hyper politicized dialogue for insightful, meaningful and edifying conversations that allow our speakers and attendees to learn more about the most pressing issues of the day.

To foster that environment, we ask that attendees adhere to the following Code of Conduct. By registering for, or otherwise participating in, a Semafor event, you are agreeing to this Code of Conduct.

Registration

  • All attendees are required to pre-register. Semafor does not permit onsite registration, unless noted otherwise. Please ensure your registration information matches your government-issued photo ID, which you may be required to present at entry. Semafor reserves the right to cancel registrations or refuse entry if any discrepancies are found.
  • You may not transfer your registration to another person to take your place or use your registration as a prize or incentive in any form of promotion, contest, game or sweepstakes.

Behavior

  • Semafor is dedicated to ensuring a safe and respectful environment for everyone involved, from attendees to speakers, staff and vendors. Semafor has a strict anti-harassment policy, and will not tolerate any unwelcome conduct or discrimination based on national origin, physical or mental disability, genetic information, pregnancy status, gender identity and gender expression, sexual orientation, military status, and any other consideration protected by federal, state or local law. Attendees must comply with applicable federal, state, and local laws and must follow all venue rules, staff instructions, and emergency procedures. We reserve the right to deny entry or remove any individual whose behavior threatens the safety or well-being of others or disrupts their ability to engage, participate, or speak at the event, including bringing signs or noise-makers, or any conduct that disrupts the event.

Security

  • For the safety of all attendees, you may undergo screenings and/or searches prior to entering the event venue. Weapons, large items (e.g., signs, posters, luggage), and disruptive devices are not allowed. Bags and personal items may be searched. Semafor reserves the right to deny entry to anyone attempting to bring in prohibited items or devices.
  • Personal belongings such as briefcases, backpacks, purses, coats, book bags, laptops, tablets or mobile devices, etc. should not be left unattended. These items are the responsibility of their owner, and Semafor is not responsible for personal belongings that are lost, misplaced, or left behind. Additionally, any unattended items may be subject to removal by security upon being discovered. Storage space for personal items is not guaranteed.

Photography and Recordings

  • External recording devices, including professional camera equipment with detachable lenses, external flash, monopods, bipods, and/or tripods, are not permitted at this event unless approved in advance by the Semafor communications team. Photography that does not interfere with the event is permitted, provided that you are solely responsible for compliance with all applicable intellectual property, privacy and publicity laws, rules and regulations.

Drugs and Alcohol

The following are strictly prohibited at all Semafor events and activities:

  • Illegal drugs and controlled substances
  • Recreational marijuana, even in locations where it is legal
  • Excessive alcohol consumption (e.g., that leads to intoxication or impairment)

Attendees who appear to be under the influence of drugs or alcohol to the point of impairment will not be permitted to attend or remain at the event. Semafor reserves the right to deny entry, request someone to leave, or contact appropriate authorities, if necessary.

  • Semafor is dedicated to providing an inclusive, accessible event experience. To request disability-related accommodations or for inquiries about accessibility, please contact us at ADA@semafor.com at least one week prior to the event. By providing us with your health data, you consent to our processing this data in accordance with Semafor’s privacy policy.
