Global trade tensions grew among several major powers, with little sign of respite on the horizon. The US is weighing imposing yet more penalties on goods and services from Canada, Bloomberg reported, after Ottawa responded to Washington’s original tariffs with matching levies of its own.

China, meanwhile, said it would retaliate against any sanctions imposed on its firms by the US as part of the Trump administration’s renewed focus on economic measures to end the Iran war. And separately, EU officials will soon head to China in a bid to resolve a widening trade dispute, according to Euronews: European countries worry Chinese firms are hollowing out their industries; Beijing argues Brussels is unfairly restricting access to the bloc’s market.
